Not Sure Where to Start?

These are the most widely-used research databases for History.

  • Historical Abstracts (EBSCO)  Icon
Major index to over 2,000 international journals, book reviews, and dissertations on the history of the world, except United States and Canada. Covers topics from 1450 (i.e. the Renaissance) to the present. Indexes publications published from 1955 to current.
  • MIDCAT (Library Catalog)
Search for books, ebooks, DVDs, music, government documents, and other resources in the Middlebury library collection. Includes primary and secondary sources. Does not contain news and journal articles.
  • Summon  Icon
Summon is our most effective tool for searching many resources at once, so we’ve put it right at the center of the library home page (look for the “Summon” tab in the “Library Quick Search” box). Summon searches most library resources including MIDCAT, full-text newspapers and journals, and most of our library databases. Watch a video tutorial.
  • WorldCat
Use this union catalog of over 40 million books, documents, reports, and media from libraries worldwide to identify books to request via InterLibrary Loan. If we don't own the book and you want to borrow it from another library, click on the ILL icon from the record. (OCLC)

Can't Find It at Midd?

If Middlebury does not have the item, request it via Interlibrary Loan (go/ill)

Tip: Worldcat, Summon, and many library databases include a link to Interlibrary Loan from each item we don't have. Look for the a Request button or links with the words Interlibrary Loan, Illiad, or similar.

         or  Link to ILLiad

Using these embedded links will put the information right into the form for you!  If you don't see this link, you can manually enter the information at go/illiad (first time users will be prompted to set up their profile).
